Because 'Dr Evil' was rather taken. How evil.

Champions Online

Tuesday, 6 October 2009 20:13 by DrHeinous

Well, with all the hubub about Champions Online, I thought I'd go ahead and post my characters (ok, my faves, I have quite a few).

First is Dr Heinous (Dr Heinous@DrHeinous, natch), super scientist and gunslinger.  His theories on the ecosystem of superheroes, and possible hero overcrowding resulting in greater chaos, have not been taken well.  His theories have been somewhat borne out (the great airline disaster of SuperGuy vs the Scarlet Onion, for example).  Still, in order to study the system, he moves among it, and does what he can to mitigate damage done by Supers, no matter hero or villain.

Bitten by a radioactive rabbit (with a mean streak a mile wide), Bad Rabbit now uses her powers for good.  Mostly.  She's not above using her powers to turn a quick buck, nor breaking the rules when it looks like a swell idea.  Besides being capable of smashing the average vehicle with her fists she commonly sports heavy weaponry borrowed from Dr Heinous... and enjoys using it.  She often walks a grey line between hero and (somewhat Robin-hood-ish) villain.

Immir the Woe was a electircal engineer post-doc who stumbled upon a series of ancient tomes in a dusty section of a university library.  This began his journey toward mastering sorcery, in particular lightning.  Having been robbed several times while living the poor student life, one final break-in and vandalization of his apartment turned him from the scholarly life.  He took the name of Immir the Woe, and swore to bring swift justice to the unrepentant.  Now, like Zeus, he throws lightning bolts from on high and scorches the souls of the unworty.  An old university associate of Dr Heinous, though a far more serious sort.

Revenge, they say, is best served cold.  Viper agents kidnaped a group of university students, taking them to a secret polar base to use as test subjects.  The majority of the unfortunate students perished quickly.  One, however, proved far more resilient.  Despite continual exposure to the killing arctic conditions, she refused to die.  The Viper researchers considered their task complete, and attempted to dispose of her.  At that moment the power of elemental frost crystalized within her.  She struck the researchers down, taking their leader's twin sabers for her own.  She took one of the remaining transports, destroyed the base's power supply, and left the remaining Viper personel in their very own deep-freeze.

Upon returning to civilization, she took the name of Yukihana ('snow flower'), and began a cold, calculating project of revenge.

I did leave off one character.  Not mine, but my daughter's, a fox-girl named Rabies in a Box.  Yeah, she is a bit of an oddball sometimes.

Hm, I'll have to remember this.  It is quite cool.  Might be nifty if I return to work on Overlord.

Katie's Choices

Wednesday, 12 August 2009 17:50 by DrHeinous

Amended.  Char sheet and power cards added for printout.

Ok, for your lvl 6 power (a 'Utility Power'), I think the best choices are:

Warlock:  Spider Climb (Encounter Power, Move action.  You move with a climb sped equal to your speed).  Run up the walls like The Matrix.  Pretty cool.

Warlock:  Fey Switch (Encounter, Move Action, Range 10.  You and your ally trade spaces).  Pretty neat, too.  Excellent for getting out of trouble.

Warlock:  Racing Fire of Ulban (Encounter, Move Action.  You move twice your speed).  Not bad either.

The Sorcerer lvl 6 utilities were pretty poor, in my opinion.  Nothing there as useful or fun as these.

You also get a feat.  I would strongly consider:

Reckless Curse (You gain +1 to attack against creatures affected by your curse.  They get a +1 bonus back at you).  How often do you get hit by your cursed target?  And +1 to hit is quite good.  (Plus, if they are by you, you hit them with Eyebite and become invisible to them anyway).

Implement Expertise (You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls with any implement power using one type of implement).  Pick this for Wands and it is a permanent +1 to ok.  Ok, so probably better than Reckless Curse, since it is always on.  Maybe stack Reckless Curse later for another +1!

Also not bad:

Psychic Lock (Any target you hit with a psychic power takes a -2 penalty to hit on its next attack roll).  Most of your commonly used powers are psychic.

Anyway, those are the ones I would seriously consider.
